Respiratory therapists help people breathe easy. They care for clients suffering from asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, and other respiratory conditions. An associate degree is the minimum educational requirement, but a bachelor's or master's degree may be important for advancement. All States, except Alaska and Hawaii, require respiratory therapists to be licensed. Median annual wages of wage-and-salary respiratory therapists were $52,200 in May 2008. The middle 50 percent earned between $44,490 and $61,720.
