Rising costs of tuition and other educational fees are one challenge that prospective students can surpass while pursuing an advanced degree. Researching financial aid opportunities can benefit students who are looking to lower the amount they are paying for their education.
The Walmart Foundation - an organization that aims to enhance opportunities in education, workforce development, environmental sustainability, health and wellness - recently announced its plans to renew an $80,000 grant that will help fund scholarships offered through the American Indian College Fund.
This program will award one $2,500 scholarship to an American Indian student who is enrolled at an accredited tribal college and has a minimum GPA of 2.0 or higher. Eligible candidates must also be a registered member of their tribe.
Richard B. Williams, CEO and president of the American Indian College Fund, stated that the grant allows "Native students who dream of achieving a college degree have the means to do so." He added that these scholarships opportunities are "helping to change the face of Indian Country and are providing hope to Native students, their families and communities."
According to SallieMae, a college savings company, typical undergraduate students receive nearly $9,000 in financial assistance.
