Individuals who have already chosen their future career path, and are interested in gaining a better understanding of what certain jobs entail, can benefit from field-specific events. These opportunities, which are often launched by colleges and universities across the country, can prepare prospective students for undergraduate studies and introduce them to campus life.

For example, Ohio Dominican University recently hosted its annual Ohio Business Week (OBW), which benefited students participating in high school-based business management programs. As part of the program, one attendee received a $1,500 scholarship from the school, according to Cincinnati.com.

The event featured interactive activities that introduced participants to ways of achieving a successful entrepreneurial career in today's business industry. Also, university faculty and local professionals taught attendees about how to develop and launch a business, the news source reports.

Academic officials hope this type of experience will enhance the skills students have already learned, and better prepare them for leadership roles in their future careers. OBW was also designed to show attendees what life is like on a college campus, which can contribute to an easier transition from high school to higher education.

Students who enroll in programs specializing in small business management may become qualified for high-paying careers. According to PayScale.com, a research company, small business owners earn salaries ranging from $34,706 to $74,220 during their first year.ADNFCR-3211-ID-19922686-ADNFCR
