Pursuing a higher education can be financially challenging but scholarships and financial aid opportunities can help with the expenses of enrolling in or returning to school. Future degree holders who receive financial assistance can complete a degree at a more affordable cost.

One organization that is providing scholarship opportunities for high school seniors is the Student Transportation of America Education Foundation (STAEF), the philanthropic arm of Student Transportation of America (STA), a school bus transportation services operator. The STAEF plans to award 12 high school seniors who reside in Charleston, South Carolina with scholarships worth $1,000 each to be used for tuition, books, laboratory fees, housing as well as other academic costs.

Candidates are asked to submit completed applications, essays that describe leadership and academic accomplishments, official school transcripts as well as student photographs. Eligible students include those who have a minimum GPA of 2.0 or higher and are enrolling full-time in an accredited South Carolina school.

April 23 is the last day that postmarked submissions will be accepted, and winners will be announced in May. Students choosing to accept the scholarships are asked to mail a letter of acceptance to the STAEF by the end of June.

Since 2003, the STAEF has awarded 60 student with nearly $200,000 in financial assistance.ADNFCR-3211-ID-19732382-ADNFCR
