Despite the troubled economy, the medical field is experiencing high demand in various employment areas, especially nursing. In an effort to provide prospective students with more education opportunities, many schools are receiving accreditation for their programs.
The National League of Nursing Accreditation Commission recently gave such endoresment to the Wayland Baptists University's School of Nursing, giving the school the opportunity to expand its program in the future, according to MyPlainView.com. The new accreditation may also increase student enrollment into the program, providing them with an education that will be recognized by the medical field.
The news source furthermore reports that the accreditation opens up the school's program to military personnel interested in pursuing a nursing degree, as these individuals are required by the U.S. Armed Forces to receive an education from an accredited school.
Established in 2006, the nursing program began as a registered nurse to bachelors of science nursing concentration, but has since "practically grown itself, " said Dr Diane Frazor, dean of the nursing school, quoted by the news source.
In the next eight years, the employment of nurses is projected to increase by 22 percent, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports.
