As the technology used in today's classrooms continues to evolve, schools are seeking ways to provide students with the most advanced equipment available. By creating opportunities for future degree holders to use this new technology, schools can give students a chance to earn a better education.
In an effort to provide first-year students with the most up-to-date accessories, the Illinois Institute of Technology plans to supply all incoming undergraduates with Apple iPads, which the school hopes will enhance the students' educational experience.
Individuals who are enrolled in engineering, science and other technology programs will have access to several applications, including eBooks, Blackboard Mobile Learn and iTunes University, which will incorporate new education tools into the classroom. The use of iPads will also allow faculty to create coursework that involves developing new applications for the equipment, leading to an increase in collaboration and interaction between technology students.
"Students live in a world where technology is seamlessly integrated into virtually every aspect of their lives, where information and collaboration are available anywhere, anytime," said Alan Cramb, the school's provost. He added that the school is "committed to providing students with the tools and support to thrive in a constantly evolving technological landscape."
Government analysts say that the employment of engineers is expected to grow by 11 percent during the next eight years, and will create an estimated 178,300 new jobs.
