Prospective students face many challenges when planning on enrolling or returning to school, including financing their education. Future degree holders can benefit from investigating financial aid opportunities, which may lead to earning a degree at an affordable cost.

The AXA Equitable Life Insurance company announced this week the winners of its annual AXA Achievement Scholarships, which gave 52 recipients from across country $10,000 each in financial assistance. Among the 52 students, 10 were named national winners and awarded with an additional $15,000 scholarship, a new laptop and an internship opportunity with AXA Equitable.

Christopher M. Condron, chairman and chief executive officer of AXA Equitable, stated that the opportunity "provides resources that help make college possible through both access and availability." He added that these "scholarships as well as information [can] help students and parents plan for college."

Recipients were selected based on their demonstration of ambition, respect for community and their determination to set and reach goals. Participation in extracurricular activities was also required, and many students were involved in setting up local food banks, designing curriculum to get kids interested in science and the development of nonprofit organizations that encourages young people to get involved in community service and civic involvement.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that bachelor degree holders earned about $1,121 per week in 2009, while those who only had a high school diploma made just $638 per week.ADNFCR-3211-ID-19749046-ADNFCR
