Healthcare is one of the largest industries in the U.S. and is expected to generate approximately 3.2 million new jobs over the next eight years, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Individuals who wish to pursue healthcare-related careers will find that some schools are providing pertinent information on relevant programs in a more accessible fashion.
One example is the Midwest Community College Health Information Technology (HIT) Consortium, which recently launched a new website. The initiative is intended for professionals as well as veterans and students who have backgrounds in healthcare or IT fields.
The HIT program, which is provided in both a campus-based and online format, takes six months or less to complete. The new website was designed to help meet the consortium's goal of training 2,700 individuals each year, and includes information on occupations and various training sessions.
Individuals who choose to enroll in the HIT program are also eligible to apply for scholarships, if they qualify.
Norma Morganti, executive director of the consortium, said that the website will "ultimately serve as a resource for individuals to find new employment."
Similar websites could help students to learn how to complete certification programs and become health information technicians. The BLS reports that the number of jobs for these professionals will increase by 20 percent over the next decade.
