South Carolina State University (SCSU) is one of these institutions, as The Times and Democrat reports that the school will provide individuals with the option to obtain a bachelor's in civil engineering technology that focuses on design. SCSU will combine its efforts with the University of South Carolina (USC) to establish this new program.
Kenneth Lewis, dean of the college of engineering technology at SCSU, told the news source that the new degree will allow students to acquire an up-to-date knowledge of technology.
Individuals may find that similar classroom or Web-based programs could lead to various job opportunities. Payscale.com reports that professionals in the civil engineering technology field can work in construction, government or transportation.
Over the next eight years, there will be nearly 68,000 new positions created for civil engineers, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
