Schools increase availability of digital media classes

As a result of many media outlets moving from print to the internet, there is a growing demand for professionals in web design. In an effort to provide the most current knowledge and skills to prospective students, some schools have launched new classes in this field.

Cerro Coso Community College recently announced it will offer two digital media arts classes beginning this fall, according the Kern Valley Sun. The courses were created to give students and current media specialists the opportunity to learn how to enhance their careers personally and professionally.

The DMA C102 Digital Imaging class will feature Adobe Photoshop CS5, and equip enrollees with skills at a beginning and intermediate level using this software. The curriculum will show students how to create projects, including digital painting, web graphics and composite digital art, the newspaper reports.

DMA C131 will be conducted through a hybrid method, which will include campus-based and online instruction. Designing the program in this format will give students the chance to work with faculty in person and apply their skills to web-based projects.

Individuals who prepare for careers fields such as graphic design are expected to see an increase in job availability. By 2018, the employment of these professionals is expected to grow by 13 percent, and approximately 36,900 new jobs will be created nationwide, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports.ADNFCR-3211-ID-19920038-ADNFCR
