Scholarships, online education may benefit professionals returning to school

In an effort to improve their professional value, many individuals who have already entered the workforce are returning to school. Students who are looking to advance their education, but need a program that is both flexible and affordable can benefit from scholarships designed for enrollees pursuing online education degrees.

For instance, Western Governors University (WGU) has announced the launching of its Future Business Leadership Scholarship program, which will benefit students working towards earning one of the school's web-based undergraduate business degrees. The school plans to give up to $3,000 in financial assistance to a total of 20 students who have already began their careers and have returned to school.

Qualifying individuals include those who specialize in accounting, business administration, human resources management, information technology, marketing as well as sales and sales administration. Eligible candidates must also have earned an associate degree or accumulated at least 60 course credits,and have a GPA of 3.2 or higher.

In addition to a completed application form, individuals are asked to submit letters of recommendation and an essay through WGU's website. July 31 is the last day for accepted submissions, the school's website reports.

Government statistics suggest that employment of accountants and auditors is projected to increase by 22 percent during the next eight years, and that this industry will create approximately 279,400 new jobs.ADNFCR-3211-ID-19872663-ADNFCR
