Scholarships ease costs for criminal justice students
Employment of police officers and detectives is expected to grow by 10 percent by 2018, opening up job opportunities for many prospective students interested in criminal justice. In addition to growth in employment in most police departments, future degree holders have many options for financial aid, with numerous scholarships being awarded annually.
According to SBWire.com, one award that is available to future criminal justice majors is the StraightForward Media Law Enforcement Scholarship, which offers four $500 scholarships. Candidates must submit applications by March 31, June 30, September 30 or December 31 to be considered for the award for the following semester.
The R.C. Hentges Scholarship is another source of financial aid for students that are studying criminal justice. Two students who are enrolled in Iowa colleges and earning degrees in fire service, law enforcement, legal (prosecution) or insurance (investigation) fields can receive a $500 award. Applications must be turned in by July 1.
Meanwhile, in Massachusetts, future criminal justice degree holders can apply for the Correctional Association of Massachusetts (CAM) scholarship. Two $500 awards are available to high school students that maintain a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and have been accepted to a criminal justice program at an accredited college. Undergraduate criminal justice students with at least 15 credits or a 3.0 GPA or higher are also eligible.
