This year's recipients were awarded based on their academic performance and commitment to community involvement.
To be eligible, students were required to submit an essay and reference letter from their current employer, hold a 3.0 GPA, be certified RNs, have a history of community service and enroll for at least six credit hours per semester.
A scholarship in the amount of $8,000, along with three others worth $2,500 each, were awarded.
Similar funds could be awarded to individuals who wish to pursue their BSN. According to the BLS, the number of positions for nurses will increase by 22 percent throughout the next decade, creating 581,500 jobs.
