The Federal Government is the second largest employer in the U.S. with nearly 2 million workers, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That number is projected to increase greatly due to the amount of these professionals who will soon retire.
Students who wish to have a career with the Federal Government may find there are programs which grant them financial aid so that they can obtain a master's degree.
The Roberston Fellows Program, established by the Roberston Fellowship For Government (RFFG), will donate $450,000 over the next four years toward scholarships for students at the University of California, San Diego. To be eligible for the money, individuals must be enrolled in the school's international relations and Pacific studies master's program.
Students who receive the financial aid are subjected to a few requirements once they graduate. They must be proficient in a foreign language and are also required to work for the Federal Government for at least three years immediately after they receive their degree.
William Roberston, chairman for the RFFG, said that the students who receive the financial aid are encouraged to take jobs in foreign policy, international affairs and national security.
Students who obtain a similar master's degree may realize they have several options for a successful career with the Federal Government. This could include occupations in homeland security or health and human services.
