Scholarships are awarded to service members and their spouses

To help cover the cost of tuition for those who have served in the armed forces, as well as their spouses, some schools are awarding financial aid to these individuals. For example, Colorado Technical University (CTU) recently announced the recipients of 50 scholarships that are offered through the CTU Wounded Warrior Scholarship program.

The money is awarded through a partnership with the school and the Yellow Ribbon Fund, and provides educational assistance for men and women who have been hurt while completing their service. Spouses of those who have been injured are also awarded the funds.

James Hendrickson, vice president of military education at CTU, said that this program "helps to better prepare our wounded service members and their families as they face an uncertain future."

The scholarships cover the full cost of their tuition, fees and course materials. A new laptop computer is also provided for the recipients.

So far, CTU has awarded a total of 150 scholarships totaling $3 million, for wounded service members and their spouses in an effort to help them pursue a bachelor's or advanced degree.
