Scholarship funds in the amount of $50,000 have been provided to 33 students who are of Native American descent and either attend or come from high schools and colleges in Washington State.

The Washington Indian Gaming Association (WIGA) sponsors the scholarship program.

WIGA chairman Ron Allen says “the number of tribal members seeking higher education is increasing every year and we are especially pleased to be able to help them.”

Allen points out that tribal governments around the state are also active in providing scholarships to Native American students.

Money was provided in relation to institution type, with $1,100 going to community college students, $1,500 being put into college or university attendees and $2,000 for those who are entering graduate programs.

A total of nine community college students received scholarships, with 16 traditional undergrads honored and eight graduate students gaining awards.

WIGA is focused on helping Native Americans reach self-sufficiency by providing them with opportunities to become educated and increase their potential.

Students from Washington State and members of WIGA enrolled tribes are eligible to apply for the scholarship program.ADNFCR-3211-ID-19931867-ADNFCR
