To encourage prospective students to enroll in fields of study such as including science, engineering or mathematics, many organizations are offering scholarship opportunities to those who are interested in pursuing an advanced degree.

The Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation announced last week the 278 national award-winners, including two students from the Maryland Technology Enterprise Institute (Mtech) who are enrolled in the Hinman CEOs program. Candidates for the financial aid were selected based on their outstanding ability and promise in science, engineering and mathematics.

Recipients of the Goldwater scholarships receive up to $7,500 per year in financial assistance. One- or two-year scholarships are awarded to each student, which can be used towards tuition, fees, books and housing costs.

James V. Green, director of the Hinman CEOs program and entrepreneurship education at Mtech, stated that "entrepreneurship, leadership and the drive to excel go hand-in-hand." He added that the scholarship program looks "forward to encouraging and supporting their entrepreneurial endeavors and successful careers."

Projected employment of mathematicians is expected to grow by 22 percent in the next eight years, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports.ADNFCR-3211-ID-19746044-ADNFCR
