Project Win-Win making associate's degrees more accessible

Inside Higher Ed has reported that, Project Win-Win, which was launched last year, will be expanded and continued over the next three years.

Anybody who has come just short of obtaining their associate's degree is a prime candidate for the growing service that seeks out students who are no longer enrolled at a college, but are nine credits or fewer from getting their diploma.

The Institution for Higher Education Policy (IHEP) introduced the new program in response to President Obama's goal for the U.S. to have the highest percentage of college graduates in the country.

Project Win-Win, according to the IHEP, expects to raise graduation rates by 12 percent by supporting 35 institutions in six different states. IHEP sponsors the program, and intends to invest $1.3 million to schools in Missouri, New York, Louisiana, Ohio, Virginia and Wisconsin.

The colleges will then seek out former students in their state who are close to finishing their associate's degree and make every effort to re-enroll them.

Last year, the program worked with nine schools. The colleges located 1,600 candidates, and gave out 600 associate's degrees as a direct result. They expect the program to lead to at least 1,000 new graduates next year.ADNFCR-3211-ID-19931864-ADNFCR
