Pendelton Woolen Mills donates funds for American Indian scholarship program

Enrollment in higher education is on the rise and one way to ease the financial strain is to seek scholarship opportunities. Eligible candidates may receive scholarships based on academics, degree specification, extra-curricular activities and many other qualifications.

Pendleton Woolen Mills, an Oregon-based home product manufacturer and retailer, announced the establishment of scholarship program, the Pendleton Endowment, which will benefit American Indian tribal college students. The organization plans to donate $39,000 to the financial program and eligible candidates must attend one of the 33 tribal colleges located across the country.

In addition to the new scholarship program, Pendelton assists in funding for the American Indian College Fund blankets. Proceeds help support several American Indian colleges nation-wide, including Northwest Indian College in Washington state, Blackfeet Community College, Chief Dull Knife College, Fort Belknap College, Fort Peck Community College, Little Big Horn College, Salish Kootenai College and Stone Child College in Montana.

Mort Bishop III, president of Pendleton Woolen Mills, stated that the scholarship fund is "one way we can continue to help young people in tribal colleges around the country become stronger through a quality education."

In addition to Native Americans, students from various other backgrounds may consider researching scholarships available in their area to help them defray the costs of college education.ADNFCR-3211-ID-19727228-ADNFCR
