Online programs may benefit professionals, engineering students

In an effort to provide opportunities for current engineers or students wishing to further their education in this field, schools are launching web-based advanced degree programs. Individuals who take advantage of these options can benefit from a flexible schedule that allows them to earn the certification at their own pace.

For example, Drexel University, an accredited online academic institution, has announced it will now offer a graduate certification program in infrastructure engineering management. This degree will equip students with administrative skills, and prepare them to contribute to company decisions regarding public funding and long-term programs.

Because the curriculum is available entirely online, students can continuously access class materials, group discussions, test scores and faculty member contact information.

"We're very proud to offer our students [this] curriculum within [a] convenient online format," said Kenneth Hartman, academic director of online education at the school. He added that "all of our online programs - including the graduate certificate in Infrastructure Engineering Management - are taught by the same renowned faculty as our campus courses."

Government statistics suggest that by 2018, the employment of all engineers is expected to grow by 11 percent, and the demand will create approximately 178,300 new jobs.ADNFCR-3211-ID-19881709-ADNFCR
