Online programs increase for master's degrees in education

Educators looking to obtain a master's degree can now do so online without interrupting their normal schedule.

These online courses work well for teachers already raising a family and working at the same time, but still want to further their education to advance in the industry. Someone can still do both because online courses can be picked to work around a busy schedule. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, as of 2008, occupations in education made up 13.5 millions jobs in the U.S. to make it the second largest job field.

Saint Thomas University is one school that recently added an online education program to acquire a master's degree. Edward Blackwell, director of the school's institute of education, says "Saint Thomas degrees would be accepted by most state-level department of education as one of the credentials needed to receive a teaching certificate in a particular state."

Most teaching and administrative positions in education require a master's degree and for someone already in the education field, online courses are convenient for advancement in the education industry.
