Online nursing programs may benefit current professionals

Nurses who are interested in furthering their education without having to disrupt their careers can benefit from enrolling in online education programs. By taking advantage of these opportunities, these individuals can improve their professional value, which could qualify them for promotions and salary raises.

Western Governors University (WGU) has announced it will now offer a web-based bachelors degree in nursing, which will give students the opportunity to acquire the skills needed to be registered nurses. Area hospitals have contributed to the launching of this program, providing locations for students to complete their clinical training.

The new degree opportunity is the latest addition to the school's expanding nursing programs. Last year, WGU partnered with local healthcare institutions and created an online bachelors degree in nursing, which upon completion qualifiesstudents to become licensed registered nurses.

"This program is specifically designed for individuals who have prepared themselves academically for nursing school, but haven't been able to enroll in a traditional program, either because of school capacity, or their own work and family obligations," said Jan Jones-Schenk, director of nursing at the school.ADNFCR-3211-ID-19852891-ADNFCR
