Online masters programs for teachers may lead to administrative opportunities

The growing interest in higher education in several fields, including teaching, has schools creating an opportunity to obtain masters degrees through distance learning. Enrolling in online programs provides flexibility for students to earn a teaching degree at their own pace and at an affordable cost.

Quinnipiac University recently launched a masters degree program in teacher leadership, which will focus on skills students may need if they are interested in academic administrative roles, The Quad News reports. An educational opportunity like this allows future degree holders to build on their current education as well as provide them with additional certification, which may lead to promotions and salary raises.

Gary Alger, assistant professor of education at the university, told the news source that "there [is] a lot of instructional work that [has] to be done and school administrators [are] calling on teachers." He added that this type of program "will be recognized as a national program on the edge of preparing teacher leaders."

The employment of education administrators is projected to grow by 8 percent in the next eight years, which is about as fast as the average for all other occupations, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports.ADNFCR-3211-ID-19724566-ADNFCR
