Ohio university expands adult degree offerings

The number of nontraditional students enrolling in postsecondary programs is increasing, and in an effort to cater to their academic needs, some schools are launching degrees specifically for these individuals.

Beginning this fall, the AIM Adult Program at Ohio Christian University (OCU) will offer associate's degrees in agribusiness and interdisciplinary studies as well as a four-year program in practical leadership. These opportunities will be available on campus as well as through distance learning, which will make continuing education both affordable and flexible for older students, according to The Chilliothe Gazette.

Enrollees in the agribusiness program will learn how corporations operate in this industry, and be introduced to managerial principles needed for lucrative careers in this field.

Those who specialize in interdisciplinary studies can benefit from learning skills that can be used in a variety of fields. Completing this program will qualify students to transfer into various postsecondary degree programs.

Students who take advantage of the offering in practical leadership will be prepared for administrative positions and capable of running a full staff of employees.

Hank Kelly, executive vice president of the school, stated that "OCU is all about serving our community, and these programs were selected based upon feedback from people in our community," quoted by the news provider. He added that "because these programs were highly requested and meet identified needs, we expect enrollment in them to grow rapidly."

According to the U.S. Distance Learning Association, approximately 3.5 million students in the U.S. are currently enrolled in a web-based course or earning an online degree.ADNFCR-3211-ID-19924243-ADNFCR
