The engineering industry is constantly evolving, and in an effort to stay up-to-date with developing trends and technology, more professionals are pursuing masters degrees. By advancing their education, individuals may be better prepared to work in their specialization and become more valuable to their employers.
For instance, Mississippi University has announced it will now offer an online masters degree in polymer science engineering, specializing in composites engineering. Classes for the new program are slated to begin this fall, according to CompositesWorld.com.
The school launched the distance learning opportunity to benefit current professionals, including primary engineers and technicians, who want to advance their education but cannot commit to a traditional course schedule. Students who take advantage of this educational option will be able to work at their own pace, and have continuous access to course materials, resources and faculty members, the news source reports.
August 1 is the last day for students to register for classes in this program.
Government statistics suggest that by 2018, the employment of materials engineers is expected to increase by 9 percent, and will create approximately 2,300 new jobs. In 2008, these professionals had annual wages that averaged $81,820, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
