North Carolina students receive scholarships for raising drunk driving awareness

North Carolina students receive scholarships for raising drunk driving awareness

Prospective students who are interested in earning a degree in can find several financial aid opportunities and scholarships that are awarded annually. Receiving this type of financial assistance allows future degree holders to advance their education at a lower cost.

For example, the law office of Michael A. DeMayo recently awarded a total of 15 high schools students from North Carolina $37,500 in scholarships through the eighth annual Michael A. DeMayo Scholarship program. The opportunity honors high school students who encourage their peers to abstain from underage drinking and driving.

Participants were asked to submit videos, PowerPoint presentations, brochures, websites or speeches that relay the message of the dangers of underage drunk driving.

Michael A. DeMayo, founder of the scholarship program and an attorney at the law firm, stated that "we were very impressed with the scholarship presentations we received from so many creative young people." He added that "these students really understand the potentially devastating consequences of drinking and driving."

In addition to their entries, winners were chosen based on their SAT scores, academic record and their participation in community service projects.

Established in 2003, the financial aid program has given a total of $162,000 in financial assistance to students pursuing higher education.ADNFCR-3211-ID-19809111-ADNFCR
