Despite being a generation that is using MP3 players, laptops and cellular phones on a daily basis, today's students have been found to still prefer traditional educational tools.
For example, OnCampus Research, a branch of the National Association College Stores (NACS), recently published the results of a study that interviewed students from 19 nationwide academic institutions. These findings helped inform digital education product manufacturers about the use and purchasing trends associated with current college students.
The study outcome showed that 74 percent of students prefer printed textbooks as opposed to digital content, and 53 percent of future degree holders are unsure about or wouldn't consider purchasing digital textbooks.
To date, the association's member stores have only seen a 2 to 3 increase in the purchasing of digital content and e-books. However, NACS representatives predict that by 2012, product sales could increase by 10 to 15 percent as content will be developed to be more interactive, and faculty and students become more comfortable with the products.
Laura Cozart, manager at OnCampus Research, stated that "the findings of the report are not surprising," She added that "every new innovation takes time before the mainstream population embraces it."
The average salaries for bachelor degree holders range from $44,113 to $86,836 per year, according to PayScale.com, a research company.
