As technology continues to evolve, degree programs in medical coding and billing will also need to change with the times. In an effort to provide students with the most up-to-date educational opportunities, many schools are using new software programs that can help prepare students for careers in this field.
Sanford-Brown College and Colorado Technical University (CTU) have announced they will integrate QuadraMed Quantim coding software into their medical billing and coding programs. Used in hospitals and medical offices, this technology provides access to patient health records, and allows office workers to sort files by medical codes.
The new software combines eight current programs into one, and provides students with access to a total of 11 reference books that can further their understanding of this field. By consolidating numerous resources, the new software is helping future degree holders save money while advancing their education.
"Providing our students access to this widely-used software will furnish them with a solid set of skills that will be applicable in the field," said Michael Schafer, vice president of academic affairs for Career Education Corporation. He added that "we believe that this will give our students an advantage when they enter the workforce."
Government statistics suggest that during the next eight years, the employment of medical records and health information technicians is expected to grow by 20 percent, a trend that will create approximately 35,100 new jobs.
