New religion school increases availability of biblical, theology degrees

In an effort to increase student access to religious studies programs in underserved areas, schools are being built that will offer several degrees in this field.

For instance, academic officials have announced the establishment of the Ligonier Academy of Biblical and Theological Studies and have begun accepting applications for its inaugural semester scheduled for Fall 2011. By establishing the new institution, academy representatives hope that young people who obtain these degrees will have a positive impact both the church and their community.

Qualified students have the option to enroll in either two- or four-year programs, specializing in biblical or theological studies. By earning these degrees, individuals will be prepared for the seminary life or qualified to pursue a masters degree in this specialization.

Fowler White, vice president for academic affairs at the school, stated that "our degree programs are designed to give graduates a thorough knowledge of the Bible, a firm grounding in theology, and a conversance with the classic works of literature, philosophy and music that shaped the intellectual world within which the great theologians of the church lived and wrote."

Government analysts report that in 2008, an estimated 670,100 clergy men and women were employed. These professionals were qualified to lead and perform religious ceremonies as well as provide spiritual and moral support to members of their faith.ADNFCR-3211-ID-19892142-ADNFCR
