The new Associate of Arts degree in Military Studies is focused on helping military students move up in the ranks faster. It also gives students who would like to obtain a bachelor of arts degree in the future a strong background in liberal arts. According to the website ArmyStudyGuide.com, a person in the armed forces who has a degree may be promoted faster than someone who does not.
Ashford University recently established an associate's degree program that is geared toward both military and civilian students. Mary Alexander, program director for the school's college of liberal arts says, "Built on a liberal arts foundation, this interdisciplinary program advances peace maintenance as a core of military theory." This degree not only helps someone in the Armed Forces possibly move ahead faster, it prepares students for jobs in the law enforcement field. According to The Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment within that field is expected to grow 10 percent over the next eight years.
The associate's degree in military studies is offered online, which means not only can someone take the courses in the privacy of their own home, but it is a convenient way for the active overseas members of the military to work towards earning a degree.
