New nursing schools answer demand for highly-skilled professionals

As the aging population continues to grow, government statistics show that the employment of nurses is expected to increase by 22 percent in the next eight years. Many schools are recognizing the demand for these professionals and launching new degree programs for students interested in pursuing higher education in nursing.

In fact, George Washington University recently received approval from its board of trustees to establish the GW School of Nursing, which will offer several new degrees and certificate programs at both its Foggy Bottom and Loudoun County campuses located in Virginia.

The school has already begun plans for the construction of the new buildings, which will house classrooms and a simulation laboratory. It also hopes to hire more faculty members, in addition to the 30 academics already in place. The new nursing program opportunities will also expand the school's Washington, DC campus, where students can specialize in healthcare policies and learn about high-level career options in the field.

Donald R. Lehman, executive vice president of academic affairs, stated that "establishing a GW School of Nursing at the Virginia Science and Technology Campus will help meet the national need for nurses and help achieve our goal of leadership in education and research in the field of nursing."ADNFCR-3211-ID-19782577-ADNFCR
