New masters program may benefit future sports agents

Students who are interested in pursuing a career in sports management may benefit from earning advanced business degrees, which can make them more valuable in the job market. By earning a masters degree, individuals can acquire skills that could lead to promotions and salary raises.

Marquette University recently announced the launching of a masters degree in leadership studies, and will begin enrollment in this program in the fall of 2010. The school's Department of Athletics contributed to the development of this project, and will provide students with connections to the Big East, the NCAA conference of which the school is a member, according to the Business Journal.

Students who enroll in this program will need to complete 15 credits of core leaderships classes and 15 hours of sports leadership courses, the news source reports. To earn this degree, the completion of six credits in integrative learning, or 18 credits of core leadership and sports leadership courses is also required.

Robert Deahl, dean of the College of Professional Studies, stated that students who pursue this curriculum will benefit from having "access to a nationally renowned athletic program."

Sports agents earn an average salary of $57,519 per year, according to PayScale.com, a research company.ADNFCR-3211-ID-19779671-ADNFCR
