New criminal justice program launched for students online

Schools continue to expand their online programs in criminal justice for the growing industry. Law enforcement continues to increase with new jobs every year and over the next eight years, positions in this line of work will increase by 10 percent, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The University of Tennesse recently made a criminal justice degree available to students. Chuck Cantrell, the school's assistant vice chancellor, says by making the degree web-based, "it was really to meet the professional needs of working law enforcement officials."

Helen Eigenburg, head of UT's criminal justice program says, "all graduates become more marketable, more prepared to request a promotion or transfer." A degree in law enforcement is essential to move forward in the industry. According to Police employment.com, someone with a degree or certificate in criminal justice can often lead to a promotion much faster than someone without this type of education as well as make more money.

An online criminal justice program is convenient for someone already in law enforcement because they can continue to work and keep their current lifestyle while obtaining the knowledge to further themselves in the industry.
