As the role of students pursuing higher education changes, more individuals with busy schedules can benefit from the flexibility of distance learning. Earning an online degree allows them to advance their education while maintaining the ability to work or take care of a family.
Purdue University has announced that its College of Technology will now offer an online masters degree program specializing in aviation technology. This opportunity will allow current professionals to learn skills that can lead to promotions or salary raises, according to AVStop.com.
The degree program, which can be completed in five semesters, will provide an education that emphasizes safety improvements in aviation technology and ways to prevent human error, the news source reports. Students will also learn the leadership skills that are necessary in order to be successful in this industry.
Mitchell Springer, the program's administrator, stated that "as a result of job and family responsibilities, working students need a nontraditional, in- and out-of-state, high-quality educational experience, which enhances their professional development with flexibility." He added that this program is "ideal for the person currently in a technical position in an aviation-related industry who would like to enhance their innovation and technology leadership skills."
By 2018, the employment of aircraft and avionics equipment professionals is expected to grow by 7 percent, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports.
