As the aging population continues to grow, students who have earned a degree in nursing that specialized in assisted living or long term care, will find many available job opportunities. In fact, during the next eight years, government statistics suggest that the employment of nurses is expected to increase by 22 percent.
The University of Denver (DU) was recently awarded a donation worth $17.5 million, which will help build the Knoebel Center for the Study of Aging as well as fund additional expansions of other fields of study offered at the school. This center will house several research laboratories as well as offices and classrooms that will be used by students enrolled in healthcare-related programs.
The funding and new facility will help the school expand the study in aging and aging-related conditions. It will also create job opportunities for faculty who teach molecular life sciences and bioengineering courses.
Robert Coombe, chancellor of DU, stated that "the work of the Knoebel Center will help to both extend the lives of the aged and improve the quality of their lives and those of their family members." He added that "we are particularly excited that this gift will usher in an expansion of our existing partnership with Denver Health."
