Need for cyber security professionals is increasing

Organizations are combining their efforts to encourage various companies, government agencies, schools and consumers to stay safe when using the internet.

The National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA), the Multi-State Information and Analysis Center and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security are promoting the month-long campaign by focusing on public awareness for internet safety.

The first event is set to launch at the Seattle Public Library, and will include keynote speakers from the White House and U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Another event will take place at Lockheed Martin Information Systems and Global Solutions in Arlington, Virginia.

Both of these events will be simulcast so that an increased number of individuals can benefit from them. Electronic materials will also be available to help companies incorporate safety guidelines onto their websites.

Michael Kaiser, NCSA executive director, says that "cyber security is our shared responsibility" and millions of Americans have been reached with this message during the past year.

The increased awareness for cyber security may mean there is also a need for experts in this industry. Students could benefit from obtaining a degree in this field, as it may offer a high-paying salary. According to Payscale.com, computer security specialists can earn more than $87,000 per year.
