Need for construction professionals leads to contractors scholarship programs

As many industries continue to experience technological advances, many of these sectors will be in need of new facilities. Also, more people returning to work could mean an increased use of highways and major roads across the country.

In an effort to encourage more students to consider careers in construction, contractors organizations are establishing scholarship programs that will benefit future professionals in this industry. For example, The Associated General Contractors (AGC) of South Dakota recently announced the winners of its annual scholarship program, according to the Argus Leader.

A total of 13 high school graduates were awarded more than $11,000 in financial assistance to be used towards construction program expenses, including tuition, books, fees and other costs.

Scholarship winners included students specializing in highway or heavy utilities construction, and they were chosen based on academic record, employment history and their need for financial assistance, the AGC of South Dakota website reports.

Individuals who wish to advance their skills through these programs may see a variety of career options become available nationwide. In fact, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that by 2018, the employment of these professionals is expected to grow by 17 percent, and the demand will create an estimated 94,700 new jobs.ADNFCR-3211-ID-19893268-ADNFCR
