The demand for professionals who have earned degrees in sustainability is growing, and many organizations are offering scholarships to increase interest in this field of study. In fact, the financial assistance opportunities provided by these groups are encouraging prospective students to enroll in green programs and attend national conventions.
The Sustainable Energy Fund (SEF), a nonprofit organization that aims to lower financial and educational barriers in this field, has announced the recipients of this year's scholarship opportunity. This financial assistance will provide funding for nearly 100 students who plan to attend the annual Sustainable Energy Conference this summer, allowing them to attend the conference for free.
During the week-long event, students will be trained in several green technology areas, including solar photovoltaic as well as wind and energy efficiency. Participants will also have the opportunity to attend more than 60 seminars that will cover various topics, including LED lighting, biofuels and financing mechanisms.
Jennifer Hopkins, president of the SEF, stated that "we are happy to provide over $150,000 in student scholarships for this event because we are clearly fulfilling our mission statement to reduce educational barriers to a Sustainable Energy Future."
Furthermore, green-collar jobs grew by more than 9 percent from 1998 to 2007, which was twice the rate for traditional jobs.
