In recent years, traditional forms of journalism have undergone rapid change as print outlets are switching to online publication and internet technology. This trend is changing the way news is disseminated.
In response to these developments, Colorado University (CU) has launched a new study that is designed to determine the necessary changes in media studies and communications.
Philip P. DiStefano, chancellor of CU, explains that the institution wants "...to ensure that course and degree offerings meet the needs of students, the labor market, our campus mission and the communications needs of a rapidly changing global society."
The university is aiming to introduce a new program of information and communication technology as a result of the study.
CU's exploration of necessary changes closely follows similar moves made by other institutions of higher education.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics describes online forms of media as the fastest-growing part of the industry over the next eight years. They also explain that new technology may lead to jobs opening up at an unpredictably high rate if more print publications go online.
