Those who are looking to become more valuable in the job market may want to consider pursuing an additional advanced degree. For example, art degree holders can benefit from earning a degree in business.
The Institute for Art Entrepreneurship in Chicago has launched the Creative Enterprise Boost Camp, a two-week course that teachers artists and other creative professionals how to start their own art business. A faculty of well-known art entrepreneurs will lead the program, which will take place from July 26 to August 6.
Students will learn about the business potential of their ideas, how to develop marketing strategies, effective communication and management operations, managing finances and how to find potential funding sources.
This program will "help artists transform their ideas into a viable business plan so that they can begin to turn their idea into reality," said Lisa Canning, founder of the institute. She added that passionate art students who "have an idea for an arts based business, but don't have a plan, this intensive course will give [the students] the tools [they] need."
Professionals with a background in fine arts may benefit the most from this type of program, as one of the most successful ways to support oneself as a fine artist is through the sales of their artwork, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports.
