For students or current professionals who wish to advance their education, they can find several opportunities to enroll in masters programs. By pursuing advanced degrees, these individuals can learn skills that can lead to promotions and salary raises.
The University of Northern Colorado Monfort College of Business has announced it will now offer a masters degree in accounting, with enrollment beginning this fall, according to the Greeley Tribune. Individuals who earn this degree will learn the necessary skills to become a certified public accountant.
Students will improve their knowledge of accounting research skills, communication skills, problem-solving capabilities as well as many other areas that lead to success as a professional accountant, the news source reports.
Representatives from the school stated that the new program will be "an extension of the undergraduate accounting program the college already offers, but it will eliminate the need for students to have a double-major to get the required education hours to sit for the CPA exam."
By 2018, the employment of accountants and auditors is expected to grow by 22 percent, and will create an estimated 279,400 new jobs, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports.
