Master's degrees prepare students for jobs with the Federal Government

Students who are interested in landing a career in homeland security will find that some schools are adding master's degrees that focus on jobs in this sector of the Federal Government. One example is Notre Dame College, which recently announced it will increase its offerings to add a program in security policy studies, The News-Herald reports.

The curriculum for the new program will be provided online(comma) and school officials hope that both recent four-year graduates as well as professionals from around the nation will find this degree convenient, according to the newspaper. Students will be required to make three campus visits.

The curriculum will combine theory, practical application and policy. Enrollees will also learn about issues pertaining to homeland security, strategic intelligence and terrorism through case studies that pertain to the government or private sectors.

John G. Hatzadony, director of the school's new program, told the newspaper that the demand is increasing in homeland security for entry-level workers as well as for professionals who have enhanced their training.

The news provider reports that students will be encouraged to find jobs as intelligence or strategic analysts, emergency managers and other careers within homeland security.

Similar campus-based or online master's degree programs may help students land jobs in the Federal Government, which is the nation's single largest employer with 2 million workers, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
