
Some schools are launching new course of study for students who wish to obtain a master's degree in strategic communications. For example, High Point University recently announced it will begin a program next year that focuses on strategy and campaigning, according to the school's website.
Virginia McDermott, director of the new program, told the news provider that this degree "will provide the foundation for students to create, implement and evaluate communication campaigns, programs and training seminars."
Enrollees will learn how messages work as well as acquire research and production skills. Students will also create and evaluate campaigns.
Degree seekers will be able to to choose between two courses of study, including public relations or health communication. Courses will cover topics such as research, message design, ethics, persuasion and professional practicum, according to the news provider.
Similar campus-based or online master's degrees could help to prepare students for jobs as public relations specialists. Enrollees may discover that this is a high-paying career with many opportunities. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that these professionals have the potential to earn more than $97,000 per year and positions are expected to increase by 24 percent over the next decade.
