Martin Methodist College receives funding for nursing program

The demand for employees in the medical field, such as nurses, is growing rapidly and many schools are receiving financial assistance in order to expand these programs of study. Federal funding gives academic institutions across the country many opportunities for growth, including through the renovation of buildings, laboratories and classrooms that can be used by future degree holders.

Among institutions benefiting from such support is Martin Methodist College, which will receive $1 million in federal funding to grow its the bachelor of science in nursing degree program. Funding will help renovate and expand the Andrews Science building, which houses the school's departments of nursing, biology, chemistry, physics and physical science, according to WKSR.com.

Ted Brown, a physician and president of Martin Methodist College, stated that the funding "will allow the strengthening and expansion of [the school's] nursing program and its pre-health professions such as pre-medicine and pre-denistry," quoted by the news provider. He added that "the expansion of the science facility will have a dramatic impact on healthcare in the region."

By 2018, employment for nurses is expected to grow by 22 percent, with the top salaries in the field exceeding $92,000 per year, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports.ADNFCR-3211-ID-19729810-ADNFCR
