The growing need for criminal justice professionals nationwide has led to some schools adding degree programs in this field. Those who have already begun related careers and wish to advance their education without having to quit their jobs, can benefit from web-based undergraduate offerings.
For example, Mountain State University (MSU) has added a concentration in criminal justice administration to its current bachelors degree leadership program. Academic officials created the offering in hopes it will help improve access for students interested in careers in this field.
The launching of this specialization marks the first time this course of study has become available at the Orlando campus, according to the Orlando Business Journal. MSU currently offers criminal justice programs on site and through its online education department at the Beckley, West Virginia campus.
Starting this fall, students who enroll in the criminal justice leadership program will learn how critical thinking, problem solving and communication skills are incorporated into various field-related criminal justice work environments. Individuals will also gain a better understanding of what their future careers may entail, the news source reports.
Over the next eight years, the employment of first-line supervisors as well as police and detective department managers is expected to grow by 8 percent, and approximately 7,800 new jobs will be created, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
