The opportunity to obtain a higher degree in law or criminal justice at a reasonable cost makes it easier for prospective students to make the choice to advance their education. Interested individuals can find many opportunities to apply for financial assistance to help with the expenses of education.
One example is Winstead PC, a business law firm, that recently announced the three recipients of the Winstead Juris Doctor Scholarship program, which benefits first-year minority law students. In addition to being awarded up to $18,500 in grants and hiring bonuses, recipients will also receive a position in the 2011 Winstead Summer Associate Program.
Scholarship winners also are allowed to award a $1,500 grant to a law school student interest group of their choice.
Kathy Lindauer, chair of Winstead's Diversity Committee, stated that these types of scholarships are "a rich opportunity to meet and hire exceptional law students with diverse backgrounds." She added that students are given "a meaningful and rewarding experience as summer associates."
In the next eight years, the employment of lawyers is expected to grow by 13 percent, which will create about 98,500 new jobs, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
