International security company names engineering scholarship winners

As technology continues to evolve, the need for engineers with up-to-date knowledge and skills is growing nationwide. Because of this demand, some companies have launched scholarship programs specifically for college-bound students who are pursuing this field of study.

For instance, Northrop Grumman Corporation recently announced the recipients of this year's Engineering Scholars program, which awarded two students $10,000 each in financial assistance. The company launched this financial aid opportunity to encourage high school seniors to advance their mathematics and science skills through engineering.

Eligible candidates include students who reside in Rolling Meadows, Palatine or Arlington, Illinois, and are enrolled full-time in accredited engineering degree programs.

"The U.S. continues to face a growing shortage of engineering talent that is critical to the design and development of technologically advanced systems for the future," said Jeff Palombo, general manager of land and self protection systems at Northrop. He added that this scholarship benefits "students in our community that have an interest in math and science, [and encourages] their pursuit toward an engineering degree."

By 2018, the employment of all engineers is projected to grow by 11 percent, and will create approximately 178,300 new jobs nationwide, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.ADNFCR-3211-ID-19879226-ADNFCR
