As more people are being diagnosed with mental disorders, the need for medical professionals, including psychologists, to treat these patients is growing nationwide. These individuals can work in a variety of environments, including hospitals, schools, privately-run offices and businesses.
In an effort to increase the number of educational opportunities for students pursuing this field of study, schools nationwide are expanding their campus locations, which can house a larger student population and more degree programs. For instance, representatives from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology (TCSPP) have announced that it will launch a new campus in Washington, DC.
The academic institution hopes that by adding another location, it will further assist those who are interested in a psychology career. Students who attend the school will be introduced to advancements in mental healthcare and will have the option to specialize in clinical, counseling or forensics psychology.
The new campus "allows [the school] to [contribute] to the important national conversation on mental health and to train more professionals to serve local and regional communities on the East Coast," said Michele Neaton-Woods, president of TCSPP.
Government statistics suggest that over the next eight years, the employment of psychologists is expected to increase by 12 percent, and the demand will create approximately 19,700 new jobs across the country.
