Students who are pursuing degrees in medicine-related fields can face many challenges, including paying for school. In an effort to assist these individuals in advancing their education in nursing, pharmacy, physical therapy and other healthcare related-fields, national organizations are offering scholarships to help them pay for tuition, books, housing, fees and other expenses.
For example, the Adena Health Foundation awarded a total of $47,000 in scholarships to 34 students who graduated from Ohio-based high schools, according to The Chillico Gazette.
Financial assistance was given to recipients enrolled in accredited associate or bachelors degree programs, specializing in nursing, pharmacy, respiratory therapy and laboratory technology. Winners also included students pursuing advanced degrees is physical therapy and radiology technology, the news source reports.
Eligible candidates were asked to submit a completed application form, two letters of recommendation, a copy of their most recent academic transcript and an essay response, according to the organization's website.
The foundation will begin accepting applications for the 2011 scholarship program starting in March.
Government statistics suggest that by 2018, the employment of physical therapists is projected to grow by 30 percent, and that demand will create approximately 56,200 new jobs nationwide.
