Healthcare camp raises awareness of need for field professionals

In an effort to encourage students to pursue careers in healthcare, some organizations are launching interactive initiatives that teach individuals about a variety of specializations in this field. Those who take advantage of these opportunities will get the chance to work with industry professionals and gain a better understanding of what certain jobs entail.

For example, Augsburg College in Minneapolis has announced it will host the Urban Scrubs Camp on August 1 to 5, which invites local high school students to learn about the growing job opportunities in various health-related fields. This offering will provide programs specializing in dentistry, nursing, physical fitness, public health and emergency medicine.

Created by HealthForce Minnesota, the camp will partner 80 individuals with experts from each specialization in a series of scenarios specific to their field of interest. For example, students interested in emergency medicine will learn about triage training that could be used during natural disasters.

Jane Foote, executive director of HealthForce Minnesota, stated that "the practitioners are excited to come to Urban Scrubs Camp to show students the many career possibilities healthcare offers."

Over the next eight years, many healthcare professionals are expected to see an increase in job availability nationwide. In fact, the employment of nurses is expected to increase by 22 percent, and an estimated 581,500 new jobs will be created, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.ADNFCR-3211-ID-19914078-ADNFCR
